Jodie Foster has come out as LGBTQ+, but she hasn't publicly used the term "gay" or "lesbian" to describe how she identifies.
Foster's sexual orientation was the subject of public conversation throughout the 1990s, and in 2007, she publicly acknowledged her 14-year relationship with producer Cydney Bernard; the two women were partners from 1993-2008, and they have two sons together (Foster is their biological mother, but their biological father's identity has never been made public).
Foster publicly came out in her 2013 Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award acceptance speech, though she didn't specify exactly how she identifies: "Seriously, I hope that you're not disappointed that there won't be a big-coming-out speech tonight," she said, "because I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago back in the Stone Age." She has been married to photographer Alexandra Hedison since 2014.
